10 Reasons To Wait For The Ram Rampage Before Buying Your Next Small Truck

Aug 08, 2023

The Ram Rampage could come to the U.S. with multiple luxurious features, including a leather-covered interior and a power-opening tailgate.

For the 2024 model year, Ram is expected to offer a smaller pickup truck, the Rampage. In other markets, the Rampage could go by the name 1200, helping it easily fit into the Ram pickup trucks lineup. While it's not yet available in the U.S., the 2024 Rampage launched in Brazil as a small, four-wheel drive pickup truck.

Despite being a smaller pickup offering, the 2024 Ram Rampage has multiple luxurious features, including a leather-covered interior and a power-opening tailgate. Here are ten reasons why you should wait for the Ram Rampage before buying your next small pickup truck.

The 2024 Ram Rampage could offer a great selection of Mopar accessories like a RamBar, power running boards, soft tonneau covers, rigid tonneau covers, etc. Fitting accessories like the RamBar help add a rugged and aggressive appearance to the 2024 Rampage.

The tonneau covers allow all 2024 Rampage owners to secure their cargo effectively. Ram could also give customers access to the Mopar 3D lab, allowing 2024 Rampage buyers to design and produce free accessories using 3D printers.

The 2024 Ram Rampage could use a stretched version of the brand's small wide platform, similar to that on the Jeep Compass and Dodge Tonale. The platform could enable the 2024 Rampage to easily offer better towing and payload capacity than rivals like the 2024 Ford Maverick and 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Thanks to using a potent 170-hp 2.0-liter diesel powertrain, the 2024 Rampage could offer a maximum payload of approximately 2,238 pounds. That's better than the rival's 1,500 pounds and 1,631 pounds, respectively. While Ram is yet to mention the towing capacity, the payload capacity suggests that it could be better than the 4,000 pounds of the 2024 Ford Maverick.

Despite being a small, unibody truck, the 2024 Ram Rampage is a great rival to Ford's Maverick pickup truck. The 2024 Rampage boasts styling inspired by its larger siblings, the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500, especially up front with its grille shape and headlights. While it's currently available in Brazil only, the 2024 Rampage clearly showcases its intentions with its U.S. flag motif in the taillights.

It measures approximately 198.0 inches long, 70.1 inches tall, and 74.3 inches wide. This makes it 1.5 inches taller and 1.7 inches shorter than the 2024 Maverick. The Brazilian 2024 Rampage has a 117.9-inch wheelbase, over 3 inches shorter than its main rival, the Maverick.

The 2024 Ram Rampage could have two engine options, a diesel 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, and a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine. Both versions offer great performance, with the diesel unit producing 170 hp and the gas variant producing an impressive 272 hp.

While the diesel variant could be the most efficient of the two, the twin-turbocharged unit could offer good fuel economy ratings of approximately 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. In addition, there's a possibility that Ram could also introduce a hybrid powertrain with the U.S. Rampage variants, offering even better fuel economy.

In Brazil, the 2024 Rampage has a base starting price of 239,990 Brazilian Real ($50,108). The higher trim R/T Hurricane 4 model has a starting price of 269,990 Brazilian Real ($56,360). For Ram to compete with rivals like Ford and Hyundai in the U.S., the prices could be lower, with the base trim ranging around the $34,000 mark and the top-end R/T trim around $46,000.

While the prices could be higher than the low $23,400 of the 2024 Ford Maverick, the 2024 Rampage could offer a better interior and more standard features. In addition, the Rebel trim might get an off-road-focused approach, making it a direct rival to the 2024 Ford Maverick Tremor.

The Brazilian 2024 Rampage boasts a feature-packed interior, even in the base Laramie trim. It features leather-covered surfaces, brown in the Laramie and black in the more rugged Rebel trim. The cabin is home to some beautiful displays, including the 10.3-inch digital driver's display and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Ram also includes a great roster of driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. These features are available across the three 2024 Rampage trims, offering the passengers added peace of mind.

Of the three 2024 Rampage trims, the R/T could offer the best driving experience thanks to its enhanced on-road and off-road features. The 2024 Rampage R/T trim could feature a dual exhaust system and a specially tuned Sport drive mode for an immersive on-road experience. These upgrades make it quicker than the other two trims, sprinting from 0 to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds.

The 2024 Rampage Laramie and Rebel trims could sprint from 0 to 60 in 7.1 seconds. For enhanced off-road performance, the 2024 Rampage Rebel trim could be the best option thanks to its model-specific 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. Ram could fit all models with ventilated disc brakes on all wheels and an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function.

The 2024 Ram Rampage could feature an upscale cabin with desirable features like a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The infotainment touchscreen could offer wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Ram could also include six USB outlets, three of which are USB-C ports.

Like most modern vehicles, the 2024 Rampage could also feature a cooled wireless charging pad. Ram offers plenty of optional extras in the 2024 Rampage, including ambient interior lighting, a 12-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, and a 10-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system. The 2024 Ram Rampage could also include a great selection of driver assists, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and automated emergency braking.

For the 2024 model year, the Ram Rampage could have three trim options, Laramie, Rebel, and R/T. The base variant could offer plenty of creature comforts, including a 10.3-inch digital driver's display and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. That would be better than the 2024 Maverick's offering of an 8.0-inch infotainment system.

While there isn't much information about the trim options, the Rebel trim might be the brand's off-road-focused trim, competing with Ford's Maverick Tremor. The R/T could be the highest trim offering of the 2024 Rampage, and it could have the most options and bigger wheels than the Laramie and Rebel trims.

The Brazilian 2024 Ram Rampage has two engine options, a diesel 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, and a more powerful twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine. The Multijet diesel unit produces an impressive 170 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the more potent twin-turbocharged gas unit produces 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels. The high-output gas engine makes the 2024 Ram Rampage better than the Maverick, which produces 250 hp from its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit. If Ram opts to include a hybrid powertrain in the 2024 Rampage, it might boost the output to 288 hp, helping it outperform the 281 hp Santa Cruz trims.
