LPG Gas Cylinder Price Cut By Rs 200

Nov 30, 2023

Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated on Tuesday that the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for household use has been reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder for all consumers. The price of a 14.2-kg cooking gas cylinder has been reduced by 18%.

"The prices of domestic LPG gas cylinders have been reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder for each and every user," Anurag Thakur remarked. Cooking gas prices are being reduced at a time when the country is experiencing severe inflation.

The move comes as the federal government is under increasing pressure to address rising inflation and its impact on people.

The decision by the government will benefit millions of low-income people in India as they prepare for important state elections this year and the general election in 2024. It should be noted that the government will have to spend an additional Rs 4,000 crore on the expanded subsidy, in addition to the Rs 7,600 crore earmarked for the current fiscal year.

Following the decision, the internet erupted in a meme-filled celebration. Have a look at some below.

The price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has been reduced from Rs 1,103 to Rs 903. Similarly, from Wednesday, an LPG cylinder that currently costs Rs 102.50 will cost Rs 902.50.

Anurag Thakur went on to declare that under PMUY, 75 lakh new gas connections will be installed for free. "On the occasion of Onam and the eve of Raksha Bandhan, I'm happy to announce that the Prime Minister has given a big gift to the women, and 75 lakh women will get free gas connections under the Ujjwala Yojana," he said. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which was launched in May 2016, is a critical government social welfare initiative. Its principal purpose is to provide economically disadvantaged women, particularly those living below the poverty line, with access to clean cooking fuel.

Do you know? The gas commonly used in cooking gas cylinders is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). LPG is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases, primarily propane and butane.

It is a convenient and efficient fuel source for cooking, heating, and other household uses because it can be stored as a liquid in pressurised containers and easily converted into a gas for use when released from the cylinder.

LPG is widely used around the world for residential, commercial, and industrial applications due to its clean-burning properties and high energy content.
